why antlers?

The life of an antler

Keep scrolling — we'll walk you through it, from elk to chew.

the bandsaw does its thing the dense wall — calcium & phosphorus marrow — the good stuff, end to end

chapter 1 — the elk

It starts on a bull elk

Antler is the fastest-growing bone in the animal kingdom — a Wisconsin bull grows a whole new rack every year, up to an inch a day.

chapter 2 — the shed

Every spring, it just… falls off

No harm, no drama. Bulls drop their antlers naturally and grow an even bigger pair by fall. We pick up what they leave behind on Wisconsin elk farms.

chapter 3 — the cut

Cut down to dog size

In our Madison workshop the shed gets trimmed and cut into chews — sized for everyone from terriers to tanks.

chapter 4 — the split

Split like a hot dog

Each piece is sliced lengthwise so the nutrient-rich marrow is right there from the first chew — ringed by a dense mineral wall packed with calcium and phosphorus.

chapter 5 — the box

Sanded, boxed, done

Edges smoothed by hand, packed plastic-free. One ingredient, zero junk.

Chew smart: pick an antler bigger than your dog's mouth, supervise chew time, and retire it once it wears small enough to swallow. When in doubt, ask your vet.

how it's made

From the herd to your hound

  1. 1

    Shed, not taken

Every spring bull elk drop their antlers on their own — then grow an even bigger pair by fall. No elk is ever harmed.

  2. 2

    Gathered close to home

We pick up fresh sheds from Wisconsin elk farms — not from a shipping container that crossed an ocean.

  3. 3

    Cut & sanded in Madison

Each antler is sized for different chewers and hand-sanded smooth. No coatings, no flavor sprays — one ingredient.

  4. 4

    Boxed without plastic

Straight into a recyclable paper box. The only thing inside is the antler — even the "window" is just a hole.

about us!

Two local guys & a pile of antlers

We're two local guys based in Madison, Wisconsin who wanted to give dogs a natural alternative to traditional dog toys. When we found out about elk antlers, we had to share them with the world. Thus became Petfoodz!

Every antler is picked up from Wisconsin elk farms, cut and sanded by us, and packed in a paper box — because the best dog toy shouldn't come wrapped in the worst material.

how it started

From a class project to a State title

Petfoodz started as a student venture — and took home hardware for it.

Our founders pitched Petfoodz all the way to a Wisconsin DECA State win — built on the very same plan behind every antler we box today.
